Spring Luncheon News

table_settingThe world famous Salem UMC Spring Luncheon is going to be on Saturday, April 17th!  This has been a wonderful event, full of all kinds of table settings, food, and fun!

This doesn’t happen all by itself, though – table setters are still needed!  Information about when tickets go on sale, the menu, and the entertainment will be coming out soon (so keep watching!).

Alzheimer’s Support Meeting

alzheimers1Alzheimer’s disease touches the lives of many in our community.  Folks often don’t know how to handle it or simply need someone to talk to.  On Thursday, February 11th, the Salem UMC, in affiliation with the Southwest Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will host a support group at the church beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Anyone who is a family member, friend, or caregiver to someone suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease is welcome to come and learn more about the disease, care options, and experience mutual support from others dealing with this devastating disease. Each meeting is free and open to the public. For more information contact Rose Kinerk at 573-729-6818.

Sweetheart Benefit Banquet

sweetheartOn Friday evening, February 12th at 6pm, there will be a Sweetheart Benefit Banquet.  This will be in support of Show-Me H.O.P.E. and will be held at the Salem City Hall.  It’s sponsored by Christian Women Working Together, a group a ladies from churches throughout the area.

You won’t want to miss this fun evening of food, entertainment, and more!  Your hearts will be warmed by knowing that you’re helping those in need right here in our community.  Tickets available soon!  Contact the church office for more information.

Dinner and a Show

comedy_tragedyA bunch of folks are heading up to Jefferson City for a little dinner theater!  The production of Red, White, and Tuna will be on March 20th (Saturday).  Dinner is at 6:30 and the show starts at 7:30.

Tickets are $30.  We’ll depart from the Salem UMC South Lot at 4:30.  It’ll be fun!  Please RSVP to the church office before January 29th.

Christian Women Working Together now have two regular events that any woman who would like to participate in is welcome and invited to attend. 
These are:

  • CWWT Weekly Prayer Meetings from 12 noon – 1:00 pm every Tuesday (Just show up!)
  • CWWT Gatherings are on the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm.  The dates for the 2010 Gatherings are: February 2 ; March 2 ; April 6 ; May 4 ; June 1 ; July 6 ; August 3 ; September 7 ; October 5 ; 
 November 2 ; December 7

These all are held in the Bank of Salem Courtesy
 Room downtown on 4th St.

All women who would like to learn what the Christian Women Working Together is about or who would like to help with our 2010 projects are encouraged to call Dixie Norfleet at 729-2616 or 729-4551 or talk to someone in your church who is a part of this fast growing group.

Christian women from all Salem/Dent County community churches and women who may not at the moment be affiliated with any church are welcome. We are about honoring Christ and working together in harmony to serve God and our neighbor. We hope you’ll come.

This is an invitation to any and all women who may be interested in becoming a part of the Christian Women Working Together. This is a great opportunity to find out what it’s all about and connect to the CWWT.  It’s all about community and working in unity to share Christ together.

Bank of Salem Courtesy Room (Downtown on 4th Street) on Tuesday, January 5th at 7 pm. Please mark your calendars and plan to come and get acquainted, be inspired, hear what is being planned, and offer your input.

Salem Area Alzheimer’s Support Group Meeting

alzheimers1Thursday, January 14, the Salem United Methodist Church, 801 E Scenic Rivers Blvd, in affiliation with the Southwest Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will host a support group at the church beginning 2:00 p.m.

The program this month will be presented by Carrie Poindexter of PCRMC Home Care on the topic of hospice care. Anyone who is a family member, friend, or caregiver to someone suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease is welcome to come and learn more about the disease, care options, and to experience mutual support from others dealing with this devastating disease. Each meeting is free and open to the public.

WOW 2010 is coming!

WOW 2010 is a youth extravaganza! There will be music seminars, food and FUN, and, oh yeah, a concert Saturday night.

NOTE: Even if you’re not a youth or plan on going, this event and those attending NEED YOUR PRAYER SUPPORT!!!

  • When: January 23rd and 24th
  • Where: Expo Center in Springfield, MO
  • Cost: $30 per youth plus food.  The price for the weekend is actually $65, which includes T-shirt and 2 meals, but the youth group will pay all gas and the other $35.  (Financial scholarship is available and will be handled discretely.)
  • MUST DO:  All attending must have the health form (click here to download) completed and returned to the church office by Sunday January 3rd (this coming Sunday!)
  • Itinerary: We will meet at the church at 8:30 am and will stay at a local church that evening.  We will leave Springfield around noon on Sunday and should arrive in Salem around 2:30ish.  All youth will need a ride home from church, so plan accordingly or make prior arrangements.

Christmas Eve Fun Run!

christmas_runIf you missed the Turkey Trot, now is your chance to do something!  On Christmas Eve (the 24th), be at the church at 4pm.  We’ll get together, pray, and go for a little 5k run/jog/walk/stroll.  Good times, great fellowship.  (Silly hat not included!)  See you there!

Alzheimer’s Association Support Meeting

alzheimers1Coming up on Thursday, December 10, Salem UMC (in affiliation with the Southwest Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association) will host a support group at the church beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Anyone who is a family member, friend, or caregiver to someone suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease is welcome to come. The December meeting will be a special celebration of the gift that caregivers give to their loved ones every day of the year and will be a time to honor all caregivers. A fun time is planned.
