UMW Christmas Dinner!

Coming THIS THURSDAY (December 2nd) is the United Methodist Women’s Christmas Dinner. It will be held at 6:00 pm at the fellowship hall of Salem UMC. Come celebrate together with these wonderful ladies that have really made a difference in our church and in our community.

Trunk-R-Treat Photos Available for Download

After much work and anticipation, your photos from the amazing Trunk-R-Treat event last Saturday are available for FREE download. We’re still working on some of them (technical difficulties, ya know), so please bear with us.

Two ways to get them:

Visit our search page (CLICK HERE), enter your ID number that you got at the event, and download your photo(s). If you don’t find them, try just browsing around the photo gallery.
Come into the church office (during normal business hours) and we’ll print them for you (yes, FREE)

Trunk-R-Treat was HUGE!

Costumed little ones (and not so little ones) came from all over Dent County and the surrounding area on Saturday for Salem UMC’s 4th annual Trunk-R-Treat event. The event was created to provide our mostly-rural population a safe and convenient was to place for families to enjoy Halloween activities. More than 3,000 of our friends and neighbors enjoyed a parking lot full of decorated cars, free food and photos, and lots of candy.

The organizers would like to thank the community for supporting the event with their prayers and donations and especially the hard work of the event volunteers.

Photos taken at the event may be downloaded free of charge from the Salem UMC website, www.SalemMoUmc.com or picked up at the church office within the week.

Break the Bank!

Thanksgiving is coming fast! You can start your giving of thanks by joining with our own UMW in supporting this year’s World Thank Offering. The event is called, “Break the Bank.” Salem has had the largest offering for the last few years – lets keep up the good work!

The World Thank Banks need to be turned into the office or brought to the meeting. The meeting is November 11 at 10:00 at the church. It’s a fun meeting because we get to separate all that money. Please come join us!!!

A Taste of Africa

We pray, we give, and we send folks, but have you ever wanted a real taste of what our Missions Team experienced in Mozambique? Now is your chance!

Coming Friday, October 22nd at 6pm, YOU can come and share a typical Mozambique dinner and a presentation by the mission team that traveled to Mozambique, Africa this past summer. Come make ministry a part of you. You’ll be glad you did.

Book fair volunteer opportunity

Salem UMC has been involved in the school book fair for quite a while. Have you ever considered volunteering to help actually put the books into kids’ hands? This can be a great way to see how your support actually impacts our community.

If this sounds interesting, please contact Virginia West (or the Office) to see how you cen help. The dates are November 8th, 9th, & 10th at the Upper Elementary School. Thanks!

Festival of Sharing Gathering

The gathering for Festival of Sharing is Oct. 10. All kits & monies should be at church by noon on Oct 8th.

We are still collecting Best Choice/Always Save UPC’s, eye glasses, cell phones, used ink cartridges, Campbell labels. Please leave these in baskets at the display in the South (Main) Entrance.

Bazaar wish list (help!)

For those of you that are interested in helping out the Bazaar, the ladies have asked for a few items. It’s important that they get the supplies they need so they can create the wonderful things that support their ministries.

They have asked for:

Pinecones (super large, long)
Silk greenery
Metal Cones for arrangements

Apple Butter Day is Coming!

ATTENTION EVERYONE! Mark your calendars: The world famous Salem UMC Apple Butter Day for the 2010 season is going to be on Wednesday, September 29th from 7am until we get good and done. This is not only a fun event where you can build relationships while working and help a ministry that supports many different activities in our church and community.

Come for the morning, or come for the day come for an hour, just come. Lunch is served (yum!), including the first taste of the new apple butter (double-yum!).

Your opportunities to help are:

Monday 9:30 -12ish Preparing the room
Tuesday 9:30 – ? Washing Apples
Wednesday – 7am Everybody come for a while
Friday 9:30 Cleaning and packing the jars

We need everyone to HELP!! It’s lots of fun!! See you there.

Time for the bizarre bazaar folks!

It’s time once again to start getting busy on the bazaar. There will be a meeting on September 15th (Wednesday) at 10am at the church. Anyone involved with bazaar (or interested in being involved) please attend. The meeting will be to gather information on who is doing projects, what has been done, and what still needs to be done.
