You may have noticed a few changes here on the website.  (If not… nevermind)  We made some behind-the-scenes upgrades that will let us communicate what’s happening at Salem UMC.

The biggest change is in the way you can subscribe to site updates and Pastor Doug’s famous Morning Messages!  What does subscribing mean?  Well, it means that when updates, announcements, or articles are posted, you’ll get notified in whichever way you prefer.  If you use a feed-reader, you can easily subscribe with just a click.  If you prefer getting updates my email, it’s a similar process (don’t worry… it’s not too difficult).

If there’s an entry or article you’d like to save or share with a friend, that’s easy now, too!  The “Share/Save” button on each article lets you zap it to your Facebook page, MySpace page, email it, or bookmark it for later.  Seriously, how cool it that?!

There are a few other upgrades we’ll discuss later, but this should get you started.  We hope you enjoy the new look!  ENJOY!

What is subscribing and why would you want to do it?

Subscribing means you can stay in-touch with what’s going on here. When an item or article is posted in a category or page you’ve subscribed to, you can be notified in a couple of ways:

1. (Obviously) you can keep checking back to the website
2. Subscribe using an RSS (feed) reader
   (If you don’t currently have a feed reader, Bloglines, Google, and even Outlook do the job nicely)
3. Get new items sent to your email (more below)

Okay, I know how to do 1, how about #2 and #3?

Subscribe using an RSS (feed) reader

Under the “Keep in Touch” box, find the feed you want and RIGHT-click on the RSS () icon. Copy the link location and follow the subscription instructions for your feed reader.

Subscribe via Email

If you prefer to receive your updates via email, do one of these:

1. Enter your email in the subscription form and click “Subscribe Me!”.  This will start the subscription for the Site Updates – including the Morning Messages.
2. Find the feed name and click on the Email () icon.

With either email choice, you’ll be sent to our Feedblitz subscription form.  Complete the form (WITH YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS) and submit it.

Within a few minutes, you’ll receive a confirmation email at the address you entered.  Click on the “Activation” link.

You are now subscribed!  As updates occur, you’ll receive and email that looks something like this:

To Unsubscribe (email):

At the bottom of each email sent to you is an “Unsubscribe” link.  Click on it and follow the instructions.  Easy!
